The Wytham Hall/Glaxo Welcome Community House

A generous donation from Glaxo/Welcome enabled us to create our first community house in Lanhill Road. This provides a supportive environment encouraging formerly street homeless people to rebuild their lives. However, we have no access to move on accommodation after our supported housing project.

    • The house has eight bedrooms.
    • A communal lounge and kitchen leading to a garden at the rear.
    • Three bathrooms and two showers.
    • Situated in pleasant Maida Vale surroundings within easy reach of Wytham Hall, shops and bus routes.

The project offers medium term accommodation providing a continuity of care that is crucial in the successful rehabilitation of homeless people. This unique approach offers ongoing medical and structured social support. Whilst in the house residents have the opportunity to develop their life skills.   They are encouraged to undertake voluntary work and are provided with access to job search facilities.  Weekly residents meetings are held to review progress and discuss move on accommodation.

Charfield Court Flats

Lottery.gif (2272 bytes)Wytham Hall was the first homeless charity in London to receive a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board. The grant, along with a substantial donation from Henry Smith Charity helped us to establish our first long-term supported accommodation for former residents of the recovery unit in 1996. This successful model led to the purchase in December 1997 of a second flat in the same block.

These two flats that are each home to four residents are working very well and tend to be fully occupied. These households tend to be more stable as they are usually offered on a more permanent basis for as long as residents feel they wish to stay. It is particularly beneficial for those that have built up a good working relationship with us and who feel that it may not work with other, larger organisations. All of the residents are encouraged to participate in activities such as courses and day centres. One resident is currently in full time employment. Help is offered for resettlement as and when required but for some residents, Charfield could be a home for life.
